Rules for Volunteer Players and Spectators
Our Arrival
Call time for a Saturday morning game is set at 7:30 am. We gather at the San Quentin Visitor’s Parking Lot. This lot can be found near the San Quentin Post Office. Please stay in the parking lot until we are greeted by our escort. We will all walk in through security at 7:45 am. If you are late you will not be able to enter later. It is recommended you use the restroom prior to entering the rehabilitation center

Player FAQ
1. Arrive at the gate of SQ in approved uniform (Alcatraces players MUST have white pants). You can be in street shoes with cleats in your bag. Street shoes cannot be open toed, sandals, slippers etc.
2. Make your gear bag as simple as possible with minimal pockets/zippers etc. This isn't an absolute requirement but it will make things more streamlined.
3. Water bottles must be CLEAR plastic. Seems like the easiest thing is to buy one and keep it sealed. Gatorade or sports drinks in a clear bottle are also fine. They will also provide a cooler with water and extra cups to refill as needed. You're also permitted to bring a small personal snack with the caveat that snacks/drinks are not to be shared with inmate players no matter how nicely/not nicely they ask.
4. Protective or supportive gear like cup, elbow protection or a shin guard is fine.
5. One person asked about a knee brace. This is fine. Full cloth is preferred. A complex brace is a different thing and would require prior approval.
6. Wallets and phones are not permitted in the institution and no cameras of any kind are allowed. The parking lot is very secure and for all the games they've hosted there has never been any kind of issue.
7. We can bring 8 bats and all must be wood. The entire equipment list is below for reference.
8. It's fine to bring in sunscreen. Lotion is preferable to spray.
9. No tobacco products of any kind. No chew, no vapes, no darts, no Zyn etc.
10. BRING YOUR ID. REMEMBER THAT YOU MUST PRESENT THE SAME ID YOU USED ON YOUR CLEARANCE FORM AND THAT IT MUST NOT BE EXPIRED.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR THOSE WHOSE LOVED ONES ARE ATTENDING AS SPECTATORS OR WHO PLAN TO ATTEND THE OTHER GAME AS A SPECTATOR.
Please see the document below which spells out expectations and restrictions about what you can and can't wear as a visitor. Please review it closely as it's pretty stringent and we want to make sure you can pack what you need.
Finally, please familiarize yourself with the following statement. It will be reviewed with us again prior to entry, but you need to understand:
NO HOSTAGE POLICY
Familiarize yourself with the following statute taken from California Code of Regulations, Title 15, Section 3304, Hostages:
“Employees must not permit inmates or others to use hostages to escape from custody or otherwise interfere with orderly institutional operations. Hostages will not be recognized for bargaining purposes. All inmates, visitors, and staff will be informed of this regulation.”
Greg Snyder, whom is our Volunteer Liaison for the event, will also give a briefing before we enter about what we can expect along with some institutional rules and expectations around proper behavior.
